Sunday, March 13, 2005According to a 2004 survey of radiation oncologists, just 5 percent of doctors said their prescribing habits were influenced by gifts. But 33 percent believed the gifts influenced other doctors. There's no doubt that drug rep pitches influence our prescribing habits. It isn't just a coincidence that prescriptions for things like Serafem (Prozac by another, more expensive name) increase just after the kick off of a promotional campaign. Even if you listen to them with a critical ear, or only pretend to listen to them, there's a subtle influence at work. Even if it's just to plant a seed of possibility when the next patient comes in the office. As you ponder the prescription possibilities, the latest promoted drug is naturally going to be on that list. posted by Sydney on 3/13/2005 11:49:00 AM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
