Thursday, June 30, 2005Canada is to impose restrictions on the export of prescription drugs to US citizens, who pay less for them abroad than they do at home. The US has the highest drug prices in the world, leading many citizens to order their supplies from Canada. Canadian Health Minister Ujjal Dosanjh said his country could no longer serve as a discount 'drug-store' for the US. ..."Two hundred and eighty million people cannot expect us to supply drugs to them on a continuous, uncontrolled basis." Mr. Dosanjh is being accused by advocates of drug reimportation of caving in to pressures from drug companies. He probably is, but who can blame him? Surely, Canada's drug prices will go up if their re-importation market increases. Americans may be saving money by re-importing drugs, but Canadians are losing their bargaining power with the pharmaceutical companies. posted by Sydney on 6/30/2005 08:37:00 AM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
