Tuesday, June 28, 2005I recently discovered that I am pregnant and when I went for my first pre-natal visit, I also found out that my ob/gyn is switching from paper to computer records. As a patient, I just wanted to pass along my experience to you. The first visit went a little longer than what is considered normal because none of my chart had previously been entered in the computer. But my second visit went much quicker. My ultrasound was recorded and saved with my file, all of my blood work was there on one sheet, as were my other vital signs. Speaking as a patient, I am glad that the office has made this switch. The inital part of the visit seems to go much quicker and I when I have called the nurses line to ask a question, I get a call back much sooner than before. I hope that your patients are as happy with your new system as I am with my doctor's! My patients appear to be divided. Some of them, especially the older ones, will wrinkle up their nose and say "What happens when the computer crashes?" (It has a separate back-up and I keep copies on a CD, soon to be DVD) or "You aren't doing this so you can fire your staff, are you?" (No, I still can't answer the phone and make all the return calls myself and still see patients.) And I agree that the phone messages get answered faster because there is no more searching for a chart, and I certainly respond to test results faster. But I don't think most of my patients are aware of this. The email service I'm using , however, is well-liked by the patients who use it. It's getting people to use it that's the hard part. posted by Sydney on 6/28/2005 08:17:00 AM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
