Changing Face of War: I found this statistic, tucked away in the story of Walter Reed Hospital's closing, surprising:
Walter Reed was originally built to handle more than 1,000 patients, but it has only 185 beds occupied daily, according to the panel's analysts.
Only 185 occupied beds? That's far lower than I would have expected in a time of war, especially with the almost daily ticking off of casualties we read about in the newspaper every day. But maybe they don't get sent to Walter Reed to recover. Sounds like merging it with the Navy Hospital would be a sound move. posted by Sydney on
