"When many cures are offered for a disease, it means the disease is not curable" -Anton Chekhov
''Once you tell people there's a cure for something, the more likely they are to pressure doctors to prescribe it.'' -Robert Ehrlich, drug advertising executive.
"Opinions are like sphincters, everyone has one." - Chris Rangel
Admittedly, the dismissal seems to have been a CYA maneuver on the part of the physician, as are many patient dismissals. In the best of all possible worlds we would have the luxury of a Christ-like forgiveness. However, even Christ didn't live in the best of all possible worlds, and if I remember correctly he didn't fair so well at the hands of the legal system himself. It's probably asking a little too much for a physician to risk his livelihood for a patient's error in judgement. (See here for examples of doctors being sued for seemingly appropriate narcotics prescriptions.)
