I would emphasize, though, that this is not an eminent threat. It's only a potential threat. The good that can come of this, however, is that it can be a stimulus to improve our readiness for an epidemic of any sort - better vaccine production and distribution methods, health departments that are actually prepared to respond appropriately, etc. Let's just hope that if eight more years go by (that's how long the avian flu has been around) without a pandemic that the motivation for preparedness isn't lost. posted by Sydney on
