Calling Bridget Jones: Remember Bridget Jones' Diary and her obsessive recording of the number of "alcohol units" she had ingested? Well, now the British want their drinks to be clearly labeled in alcohol units. Maybe this is just a British term. I'm not even sure what an "alcohol unit" is. Four ounces of whisky? Eight ounces of wine? Twelve ounces of beer?
UPDATE: Yep, it's something uniquely British. And all this time I thought Helen Fielding was just being cute and clever in using the term. posted by Sydney on
