Virtual Malpractice: USA today covers a trend to diagnose and treat via email. The biggest problem with this is that there are few cases where an accurate diagnosis can be made without actually laying eyes and hands on a patient. Even something as simple as a red eye, which a patient often thinks is "pink eye" can be easily misdiagnosed if treated without examining the patient. My personal policy is that I don't treat patients over the phone, it's too fraught with dangers. And let's face it, email is just a slow phone call. posted by Sydney on
