"When many cures are offered for a disease, it means the disease is not curable" -Anton Chekhov
''Once you tell people there's a cure for something, the more likely they are to pressure doctors to prescribe it.'' -Robert Ehrlich, drug advertising executive.
"Opinions are like sphincters, everyone has one." - Chris Rangel
Increasingly Uncovered: The number of people without health insurance has increased - by a whopping 0.4%. That's not really a whole lot, even though it represents millions of people, it's still only 14.6% of the population. If we ever got to the point where most people were uninsured, I bet we would see a dramatic drop in healthcare costs. Most doctors would prefer to bill their patients directly and avoid all the insurance company hassles. Getting payment through insurance companies actually requires more overhead - you have to have someone to haggle with them over every denied bill, which is, sad to say, just about every bill. If we could just charge our patients for their office visits, the price of an office visit would be a lot less than it is now. But, when the vast majority of people are insured, you just about have to accept the insurance plans in your community to make ends meet, unless you're the only doctor in town. posted by Sydney on
