Supplement Watch: There is, at last, some movement to regulate herbal medicines, but mostly within the private sector. Three companies are offering "seals of approval" to certify that herbal products are free of contaminants, not that they're safe or effective. The FDA is also working on some rules for the basic manufacture of herbal medicines. At least it might keep people from developing lead poisoning from their herbs, although it won't keep them safe from the side effects and possible interactions with other drugs. posted by Sydney on
