Tuesday, December 17, 2002Senator Ted Kennedy, though, sees this perfect storm as the perfect chance to once again launch an attempt at socialized medicine. He’s planning to announce his plan in January: Kennedy's plan, according to Manley, "begins with building on the current health-care system in this country, basing it on an employer mandate for companies with five or more employees." Employers would be required to subsidize health-insurance premiums at 75 percent, with the employee responsible for 25 percent. South Knox Bubba has few choice words to say about this: This is just ridiculous. We need to get employers out of the equation. First of all, it isn't "universal" if small businesses (less than five employees) are exempt. That leaves out millions of people right out of the gate. Second of all, employers need to be in the business of their business, not providing government mandated paternalistic cradle to grave benefits for their employers. If Ted Kennedy had ever had to work a day in his life or run a business and make a payroll, he might understand this. There you go. And from a liberal. posted by Sydney on 12/17/2002 07:49:00 AM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
