Tuesday, February 04, 2003Teams of female volunteers and health workers went from house to house in the Afghan capital on Sunday offering free tetanus jabs to women as part of a global U.N. campaign to cut deaths among mothers and new-born children. By next Saturday, the U.N. Children's Fund aims to vaccinate 740,000 Afghan women between the ages of 15 and 49 in four major cities in order to prevent the deaths of an estimated 11,000 babies from tetanus every year. Someone should do a comparison of the lives saved by the war in Afghanistan (via adequate healthcare, immunizations, obstetrical care, food, water, etc.) and the number of real lives lost in the war. Bet more have been saved. posted by Sydney on 2/04/2003 07:51:00 AM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
