Friday, May 16, 2003Virus was detected in a variety of clinical specimens from patients with SARS but not in controls. High concentrations of viral RNA of up to 100 million molecules per milliliter were found in sputum. Viral RNA was also detected at extremely low concentrations in plasma during the acute phase and in feces during the late convalescent phase. They’ve also got a veritable pictorial atlas of the virus up online. Here's a picture of infected cells exploding in a lab culture ( the top image), an image of the virus itself, a view of infected lung tissue (contrast that with healthy lung tissue, noting the absence of empty space for air exchange in the infected lungs), and an image of an infected lung cell. posted by Sydney on 5/16/2003 07:04:00 AM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
