Political Medicine

Doctor Democrat: One thing that comes through in the New York Times profile of Howard Dean, doctor and Democratic presidential hopeful is - once a doctor, always a doctor:

Howard Dean is a classic doctor: smart, abrupt and clinical. It's not hard to picture him in a white coat and loafers, backing toward the door as you try to ask one last question.

It’s more than just the reporter’s impression of the man, however:

''I'm trying to figure out how to do this and not be arrogant,'' he confides. ''Sometimes I get impatient with people who don't agree with me.''

Hmmm. Maybe the physician temperament isn’t the best fit for a national leader.
