Cut-Backs: Ontario is finding out how hard it is to take away perques. They're no longer covering optometry, massotherapy, or chiropractic manipulation under the government health plan. Predictably, there are complaints:
'There's going to be more needless back surgery, more reliance on medication with all the harmful side-effects, more lost time from work, more disability than ever, if these changes go through,' Diane Bell said."
Chiropractic manipulation can be quite effective for mechanical back pain, but at least on this side of the border, there are more than a few chiropractors who have patients come back weekly or monthly for "maintenance adjustments" that aren't truly necessary. They do, however, help the chiropractors' bottom line. Is there any reason to suspect that Canadian chiropractors are any more scrupulous?
