Wednesday, November 03, 2004Rehnquist did not say what type of thyroid cancer he has, how far it has progressed or the prognosis. Dr. Leonard Wartofsky, a thyroid-cancer expert at Washington Hospital Center, said that the combined chemo-therapy-radiation indicates that Rehnquist has anaplastic thyroid cancer, a fast-growing form that is almost always fatal. Patients with anaplastic thyroid cancer often have four to six weeks of daily visits for radiation, and multiple rounds of chemotherapy that can go on for several months, Wartofsky said. Rehnquist's announcement, more somber than the one a week ago. made no mention of leaving the court. 'According to my doctors, my plan to return to the office today was too optimistic,' he said. You can read more about anaplstic thyroid cancer here. The prognosis is not good. posted by Sydney on 11/03/2004 07:27:00 PM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
