Monday, December 13, 2004What is the CDC and the Administration doing? There's probably not much they can do. They have no authority over manufacturers of drugs and vaccines. The FDA's influence only goes as far as safety and efficacy. Does the CDC have any plans for distribution of vaccines in the event of another shortage? They seem to think they've got a pretty good system now, but it's woefully inadequate. I've been instructing my patients to call the local health department for flu vaccine information, since the CDC announced that's where they would be directing supplies, but most of them come back to tell me that the they get no help from the health department when they call. Then there are stories like this, about some areas having surpluses of vaccine, so much so that they don't know what to do with it. Their handling of the shortage thus far has been disappointing, to say the least. posted by Sydney on 12/13/2004 08:20:00 AM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
