"When many cures are offered for a disease, it means the disease is not curable" -Anton Chekhov
''Once you tell people there's a cure for something, the more likely they are to pressure doctors to prescribe it.'' -Robert Ehrlich, drug advertising executive.
"Opinions are like sphincters, everyone has one." - Chris Rangel
Ends of Life:The New York Times has been doing a good job lately of covering the Schiavo case. Yesterday, they summed up the personal issues behind the family dispute. And this is, above all, a family dispute. And all too common one when illness strikes - even when it doesn't involve a life and death decision. It isn't unusual for extended family members to insert themselves into medical decisioin making processes - often without being asked by the patient or their immediate family. No surprise, I suppose. It's the extremely fortunate person who can go through life with no in-law conflicts.
