In the Lap of Luxury: I'm blogging from the lobby of a luxury resort in Virginia where I'm attending a conference - the first time I've slipped away from the office out of beeper range since I went solo a year and a half ago.
I thought that having the electronic medical record would make this easier, but it hasn't. I've been sitting here for two hours now going through the labs and phone messages. This technology is not necessarily an improvement. If I didn't have the ability to do this, I would just call up my staff and answer the questions they have, then I would go out hiking or shopping, or whatever fun things might strike my fancy during the conference's down time. The advantage is that I won't have a backlog of paperwork when I return, but I don't think it's a worthwhile trade-off. In the future, I'm just going to call them and not bother with the electronic record. (Unless I can do it during the lectures. Then it would be worthwhile. My VPN is just too slow.)
