Local Politician Meets The Internet: A local man recently started a website that keeps a running tally of the city of Akron's expenditures. The Mayor is livid:

Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic told reporters Wednesday that the man behind a local Web site critical of Akron's business development practices is a liar who is wasting his money rehashing old issues.

....Plusquellic said he hasn't visited the Web site and doesn't intend to. He said Parker's arguments that the city has squandered millions of dollars on development projects are just old, unsubstantiated complaints dredged up by the mayor's political opponents.

``There's nothing there, so if anyone wants to watchdog on me, and if they're going to pee their money away like he's doing, I'm almost happy about it because it proves what an idiot he is,'' Plusquellic said.

``The more he does that, I think the more convincing that my argument becomes that there literally are people who are wackos -- crazy -- and they're crazy enough to spend their own money to put on a Web site issues that are 10-12 years old.''

And then, with joking regard to the tender ears of high school interns sitting in on the press conference, Plusquellic spelled out what else he thought of Parker's site.

``The statistics though are p-i-s-s,'' he said.

....He said the debate has grown tiresome and wondered aloud why the Beacon Journal appeared to lend Parker credibility by writing about his Web site.

``When he sits at bars drinking every day with his loud mouth, shooting off his mouth, he's lied almost every day of his life for the last 10 years,'' Plusquellic said.

Poor Mayor. He isn't used to scrutiny. Welcome to the age of transparency.

And by the way, do you suppose those high school interns will grow up thinking that's the appropriate response to criticism?
