Monday, September 12, 2005A top emergency official in Louisiana lodged a new complaint Sunday, saying the Federal Emergency Management Agency has been slow to provide temporary housing to evacuees living in shelters. "We have raised the issue for days," said Col. Jeff Smith, deputy director of the state's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. "We do not feel that process is moving fast enough. We just feel like there should be trailers rolling and things happening. Maybe the problem is that the people in the shelters don't want to leave Louisiana. Our city, in Northeast Ohio, has been ready for two weeks now to accept the displaced, but they've balked at coming to the North. Other states are noting the same problem. Don't you get the feeling that Louisiana officials are largely made up of people who think that the way to get something done is to scream and kick until someone else gets the job done? posted by Sydney on 9/12/2005 07:37:00 AM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
