Bickering Doctors: An interesting history of colonial medical conflicts during the Revoluationary War. Washington didn't think too highly of his regimental surgeons:
Many of them, in his view, were 'great rascals countenancing the men in sham complaints to exempt them from duty and often receiving bribes to certify indispositions with a view to secure discharges or furloughs.' In numerous instances they had drawn medicines and stores in the 'most profuse and extravagant manner for private purposes.'
