Bird Flu Update: The British parrot apparently was not infected with bird flu, but finches from Taiwan were. Indonesia may have another human bird flu fatality - emphasis on may. China worries that small town doctors can't diagnose it (time for some government-sponsored continuing medical education.) Russia claims they've effectively halted the spread of the virus among Russian chickens. And Australia, so close to Indonesia and Southeast Asia, held a preparedness exercise called Operation Eleusis. Whether the name is an reference to Demeter, the goddess of agriculture, or the word's meaning ("secret arrival") is not known.
Interesting interactive map on bird flu through the years, from the BBC.
