Dispatch from the East: I asked my uncle, who lives in Taiwan, if there was much fuss about the avian flu there. His response was a little surprising:
A bigger fuss here is Mad Cow Disease. The Taiwan government lifted the quarantine on US beef. The oppostion accuses it of endangering the Taiwanese people. But you have to understand politics here. If the President sneezes, the opposition accuses him of endangering the health of all Taiwanese and demands an apology and/or his resignation.
