Sunday, February 19, 2006I very nicely explained that our office has an easy-to-use triage line. Urgent calls are returned by a nurse or a resident physician within an hour. Regular calls and refill requests are returned within 24 hours. She listened quietly with a polite smile before very nicely explaining to me that she doesn't work that way because she's special. We are all special. My specialness does not enable me to have immediate access to the multiple specialists who keep my life in order. When my car needs a car specialist, I call the office and make an appointment. When my hair needs a hair specialist, I call and make an appointment. When my body needs a health specialist, I call and make an appointment. A corollary to this is the person who insists on getting his 30-minute problems taken care of in his 15-minute scheduled appointment (scheduled for ear ache but wants his mole biopsied, too) because his time is "just as valuable" as my time. I'm sure that's true, but his time is no more valuable than guy waiting in the next room for the 15 minute appointment to end so his can begin. posted by Sydney on 2/19/2006 10:22:00 AM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
