Saturday, March 11, 2006Over 21 years, 413 people died after being trapped in hospital beds and 120 were injured, the Food and Drug Administration said in a statement on its website yesterday. It also noted that the numbers of injured may be higher because many cases may go unreported. Some cases involved patients being trapped in openings in the bed rails, between the rails and the mattresses, and between the rails and headboard. In many cases, the patients were elderly or frail. In response, the FDA has come up with suggested safety guidelines for hospital beds. Meanwhile, at least one community is trying to save the beds. posted by Sydney on 3/11/2006 03:34:00 PM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
