Sunday, October 22, 2006One victim was a 67-year-old resident of Petah Tikva who was vaccinated at a Kupat Holim Meuhedet clinic in the city. The others were 52, 70 and 75 years old, and were all residents of Kiryat Gat who were vaccinated at the same Kupat Holim Leumit clinic in their city. Coincidence? Who can tell? No autopsies were performed. But perhaps it would be prudent to check to see if their immunizations came from the same vial. (There are usually 10 doses in a vial, so if the vaccine was responsible, you would think there would be 10 victims from the same clinic. Unless they used the more expensive single dose vials.) Elsewhere in the news, the year of flu vaccine abundance has turned once again to another year of shortage. Production problems have delayed some pediatric shots, and distributor mishandling has resulted in the recall of others. Doctors, meanwhile, are getting frustrated with the CDC's disconnect from reality. posted by Sydney on 10/22/2006 10:08:00 PM 1 comments 1 Comments:I don't know of any multidose vaccines, flu or otherwise, used in Israel (I'm a family physician as well, working in a different health fund). The notice we received from the Health Ministry mentioned the vaccines given in Kiryat Gat were all from the same lot, however. I heard on the radio today the dead person in Petah Tikva is being autopsied, and they are awaiting the results. By 12:38 PM , at |
