Stranger than Fiction: A most unusual transplant. Brings to mind the brachial rhinoplasty:

In these operations, defects on the nose were reconstructed using skin from the arm, and in some cases, from the arm of another person. But unlike a skin graft where the skin is completely lifted from the distant site of origin, for a brachial rhinoplasty it was required that the arm be left in contact with the face "for the space of ten or fifteen days, or until union had taken place; and it was not until then that the arm was released from its situation."

    It's all about the blood supply. Still, those Italian surgeons must have been brilliant, highly skilled and confident. Wow. Not to mention what the family was thinking.
