Wisdom of the Ancients: How doctors of old dressed for success:

Hippocrates advised doctors to be “clean in person” and “well dressed” but also recommended that they be “plump” and anoint themselves with “sweet-smelling unguents.”

I've got the plump down, and I'm usually clean, and I try my best to be well dressed in a modest sort of way, but the unguents I leave at home. Patients could be allergic. Although, I do know a doctor who wears such powerful unguents that I've taken his unguents home with me simply by sitting in a chair he used five minutes earlier.
