Sunday, March 25, 2007Heralds of Spring: This is the real first day of Spring. The weather was warm, the crocus blooming, kids were roller skating in the streets, people at the grocery store were wearing flip-flops and there was a line outside the ice cream stand for the first time since winter started. There was an air of delight all around. People seemed more polite, more quick to smile than to scowl, and less hurried. I planted the sweat pea seeds in their little peat pots, the first Spring chore in my gardening year. My kids were playing tag and riding their bikes for the first time since January. It almost seemed wrong to feel so much delight in the middle of Lent. But every silver lining has its cloud. Those pretty crocus up there were soon trampled underfoot by a careless child. Sigh. At least they live on in the photo. Surely there are more winter-cold days and even snow in our near future, but for today it is Spring. posted by Sydney on 3/25/2007 06:22:00 PM 1 comments 1 Comments:
