Thursday, April 26, 2007Is Shrek pure dreck as a spokesman for healthier lifestyles for kids? The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood thinks so. The child advocacy group based at Harvard University has asked the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services to stop using the animated green ogre in public service TV commercials that promote more exercise for kids. The problem, the group says, is the list of often high-calorie, high-fat or high-sugar foods that producers have signed for promotions tied to the May 18 release of the film sequel Shrek the Third. They range from Sour Skittles to McDonald's Happy Meals to Kellogg's Shrek the Third cereal to special Cheetos that turn mouths green. Looking forward to those Cheetos. Does anyone really think that kids see the Shrek exercise promotions and think to themselves, "Why listen to him? He sells Cheetos!" posted by Sydney on 4/26/2007 07:28:00 PM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
